Lawn, Garden and Nursery Stock Use

Please remember,
Each plant has different water needs during the year. It will take about two weeks for the roots to attach to the Crystals and obtain full benefit. If possible, put the crystals around the plant two weeks before transplanting to minimize any transplant shock.

Before you Start
Do not exceed recommended rates. Crystals will swell considerably when wet, and overuse can result in dislodging the plant or soil from the container. To compensate for the reduction of nutrient losses due to leaching, less fertilization may be required.
These recommended application rates were developed to provide optimum additional water and nutrient storage for the least investment.
: One rounded tablespoon will absorb approximately 1 gallon of water and nutrients.

Lawn Use
For clay and loam soil evenly distribute 15lbs of crystals per 1000 sq. ft. and till to a depth of 4-6 inches. In sandy soil, a minimum of 20 lbs. per 1000 sq. ft. is recommended with tilling to a depth of 6-8 inches.
With crystals tilled into soil prepare for and seed or sod in usual manner.
Before laying sod, evenly distribute 1 lb. of Crystals per 1000 sq. ft. of prepared soil. Lay sod in normal manner and water copiously. Additional crystals will provide moisture at the root zone of newly laid sod.
To increase water holding capability additional crystals may be added at time of tilling. To avoid making a soft lawn never use more than 5 lbs. per tilled inch per 1000 sq. ft.
Fifteen lbs. of Crystals per 1000 sq. ft. will store approximately one half inch of water.

Garden Use
Broadcast two lbs. of PAC per 500 sq. ft. before tilling, till to a depth of 6-8 inches. Water area well to expand crystals. Allow soil to drain before planting. Additional crystals may be added if desired.

Nursery Stock Use
Standard mixing rate is 2 pounds of California Crystals per cubic yard or 2 rounded tbsp. per cubic foot of planting media for ornamentalism, bedding plants, conifer seedlings and all container plants.
THE MIRACLE OF THE CRYSTALS IS THEY STORE WATER WHEN IT IS ABUNDANT AND ARE ABLE TO RELEASE UP TO 95% OF IT BACK TO THE PLANTS DURING DRY PERIODS.
California Crystals become a reservoir for water and nutrients when expanded. This reduces drought stress and results in a more vigorous growth and a greener healthier plant.
California Crystals are modified polyacrylamide which absorb up to four hundred times their own weight in deionized water. Supplied in dry crystal form, PAC absorb water and swell to form a durable crystalline gel which plants can tap as a water source. The rate and extent of absorption may vary depending on the salt content of soil and water (150-300 times in most soil). The swelling and shrinking cycle is repeated indefinitely until consumed by microorganisms.
PAC’s unique properties give you a safe and convenient way to reduce the number of waterings your plants need to stay green and healthy. There is no residue build up in the soil. California Crystals have a durability of 5-10 years.
Annual tilling will destroy approximately 5% of the crystals due to Ultra Violet light exposure. Therefore, we suggest adding 5 to 10% every other season, to maintain the highest level of drought-stress protection.
